Internet links

Some webpages make it a sport to acquire as many links as possible. That makes you better to find at Google, definitely. Mitesco refers only to a few pages. And we tell you why.

1. Source.

The only place on the internet where you can find almost everything about judo, even the philosophy and some texts of Jigoro Kano:

2. Videos.

Judovision.org. This compilation page has a decent collection of large judo tournaments with big names.

[You can see there are a lot of international 'topjudo', but providing this link is not to say that Mitesco likes everything... ]

You can enjoy some more videos on youtube.

For example Jigoro Kano and Kyuzo Mifune in action. That's what we call judo!

Search Results for "jigoro kano"

Search Results for “kyuzo mifune"

(Do yourself for the test "find the differences between these videos and those of judovision!)

4. Application. Judo for Peace.

For Jigoro Kano this global initiative would be a dream: judo in the service of a global jita kyoei.

Fight for freedom and better way of living ...

A great EJU project and a couple of Dutch judoists, judo for disabled:

5. Dojo.

There are fortunately many good gyms and judoclubs. Outside our own country there are gyms that immediately on their first page display a kind 'Mitesco philosophy'. This you will find nowhere in the Netherlands. In order to contribute to the jita kyoei  the Roman judoschool Tomita organizes an annual judo tournament together with / for the benefit of a shelter-care center for children with cancer. (See in this connection also the recommendation of the menu 'respect' point 4d.)

Another excellent initiative is the Hirschkuppe project (for young people from the straight path waived) of the German judoka Olaf Quest. He writes about it:

"Since several years, the Youth Home Hirschkuppe in Steinbergen led by Olaf Quest offered a judo group. Focus of this group lies - just as the work of this school - on the "hailpedagogic orientation." Young people are using the judo values of keeping together, helping each other, solidarity, respect, attention etc. Ideally, these values correspond to the basic principles of the judo sport so that the requirements of the home and judo sport match almost perfectly "

Books

Of course we want to play for a judo library catalogue. But then you get a mouse-arm and that is a bit tricky for a good kumikata what we all want after reading Mitesco .

So, just a few books. Books with only techniques and sports we don't recommend. Four English books we appreciate. The authors speak for themselves. Perhaps the best ones ever written about judo.

Kodokan Judo:

The Essential Guide to Judo (1956, rev.. 1986, ed.1994)

by Jigoro Kano

Mind Over Muscle:

Writings from the Founder of Judo

by Jigoro Kano

The Canon of Judo: Classic Teachings on Principles and Techniques (from 1956!)

by Kyuzo Mifune

Black Belt

by Neil Ohlenkamp
